Proper Steps:

Sit tall in machine with feet flat on floor
Lock legs under lap pad and brace core against belly pad
Without losing contact with the belly pad, pull your elbows down and together behind you 
Control the weight as it returns to the starting position, but don't let the weights rest/settle until the set is complete
Repeat for the desired amount of repetitions
