Based on the principle of Mechanics, Consistency and then Intensity, CrossFit emphasizes good movement throughout childhood and adolescence. Consistently good mechanics translates to physical literacy, enhanced sports performance and fewer sports injuries for kids and teens. Not only that, a vast body of research indicates that exercise is beneficial to cognitive function, which means consistent adherence to the program can have a positive impact on children’s academic achievement. This class is for Cougar Kids Camp participants for the week of June 25-29. Transportation will be provided to campers to transition to the Chinook for class. Parents/Guardians should pick their child up at the Chinook Student Center promptly at 4:50pm.

Intro to CrossFit: Tuesday, Thursday 5:00-6:00pm

CrossFit is constantly varied, functional movements performed at high intensities. CrossFit is broad, general and inclusive fitness that seeks to prepare participants for any physical or unknown contingency. You will work on the foundational movements of CrossFit while increasing your knowledge of fundamental CrossFit exercises and increasing your work capacity. Intro to CrossFit is an introductory course that meets twice a week. You will be taught the fundamental CrossFit movements, perform a Workout of the Day (WOD) and begin tracking strength numbers. This section of CrossFit will be in the Chinook Student Center Room B40. This class can be purchased by SRC members, however, you will need to purchase a day pass each class to access the facility.

Ready to sign up for CrossFit but are worried that you don't know the movements or aren't in shape yet? CrossFit Jump Start is just for you. Jump start is 5 days long, intended to immerse you in the world of CrossFit, teach you the movements, and give you the foundation for success in our regular classes. To participate in CrossFit, you will need a Chinook membership. At the end of the Jump Start you should be ready to jump in to the regular CrossFit Classes by purchasing a CrossFit Pass and join the rest of the WSU CrossFit Community! Upon graduation on that Friday of class, if you have attended at least 4 days that week, you will receive your CrossFit shirt, and will be ready to roll your Jump Start experience right in to a CrossFit Pass!
