Route Setting

Do you want to contribute to your climbing wall community?  Then route setting with your fellow climbers may be the next step for you.  While you don’t need to be a 5.14 climber to set at the University Recreation Climbing Wall, you do need some experience climbing before you come to set routes.  A basic understanding of climbing flow and movement as well as grading systems is highly recommended.

In order to route set, you must first attend one of our route setting clinics offered every month.  Our facility hosts two types of route setting: general; which is orientated towards bouldering (below 12ft), and vertical; which involves setting routes above bouldering height (12ft) and involves significant rope work.

The designated time for route setting varies by semester, but currently occurs three days a week from 9:00 p.m. - 11:30 p.m.  For more information regarding route setting, please contact Arturo Gavilanes at 509-335-8393 or
