6/28 Eco Adv: Moscow Mountain Trail Maintenance

Moscow Mountain is host to numerous hiking trails and mountain bike trails. Many of the trails are generously located on private land and this is a great way to give back to this resource. Our hope is to team up with the Moscow Area Mountain Bike Association (MAMBA) and lend them a hand in their continuing efforts to improve the trails. Bikes are not provided, but our hope is that we will either do some riding or hiking after the trail maintenance. Departure times and return times are still to be announced pending ongoing coordination.

No experience is necessary and all essential equipment is provided. There will be several options for paddling including canoes, sit-on top kayaks, sea kayaks and inflatable kayaks. Paddling down the Snake will surely put anyone in a calming state of mind. Ever wanted to know how to rope climb? This clinic will provide the basic foundations for the skills required to belay your climbing partner. Beginning with an overview of equipment needed, this course will then provide hands on instruction on how to tie specific knots, develop climbing dialogues, and give a proper belay. After going over the basics, there will be time to put the newly developed skills in practice as we all enjoy

5/31 Palouse River Paddle & Palouse Falls Viewing

One of the greatest waterfalls in the Northwest is less than 90 miles away from us. The Palouse River plummets 185 feet into the river’s canyon. Several miles before the falls, the Palouse River meets the dammed Snake River which creates a lake of flat water for us to paddle on. The entire paddle to the falls can take upwards of 8 hours and is not a guaranteed outcome of the trip. The river canyon we will paddle is spectacular as is widens and narrows along the entire trip. This trip is appropriate for beginner paddlers who are in good physical condition and are confident swimmers. Cost includes transportation, kayaks/associated safety gear, and wetsuits and booties if needed. Participants are recommended to bring a change of clothes for after the paddling and must pack a lunch to be eaten while in the river canyon. We will depart the ORC at 8am and plan on being back by 7pm. This activity will have a pre-trip meeting at the ORC at 6pm the Tuesday before we depart.
