Interested in participating in a fitness class?

A membership or a day/guest pass is required to participate in classes located at the Chinook and SRC. Please note that there is a SRC and FSFP member rate for Chinook classes, which only provides Chinook access to SRC/FSFP members 20 minutes prior to class to 20 minutes after. 

A Fitness punch card does not provide access to the SRC or Chinook for non-members.  Participants may gain access to facilities via membership, day/guest pass, or a facilities punch card.  

Fitness Class Refund Policy

With receipt or proof of purchase, a full refund given within 6 days after the start of class, 50% refund within 13 days after the start of class.  No refund will be given after 13 days of the start of class. Additionally, to keep costs low, all classes are assessed for cancellation at the end of the first week of the session.  Participants in classes with low enrollment will be given the option of a full refund or transfer into another class.

Adult Beginner Swim Lessons

Learning the Basics. These lessons will help you learn how to be comfortable and active in the water. You will learn how to float, submerge completely, propel yourself through the water on the front and back, and begin to learn the basics of the front and back crawl strokes. All of our instructors are certified as Water Safety Instructors and teach 45 minute lessons based off the curriculum of the American Red Cross. Improving Skills and Swimming Strokes You will learn and improve proficiency in basic aquatic skills and the six basic swimming strokes. These lessons will teach you how to become a more efficient and effective swimmer. You will also learn how to be safe in and around the water. All of our instructors are certified as Water Safety Instructors and teach 45 minute lessons based off the curriculum of the American Red Cross. Prerequisites: You must be comfortable in chest-deep water, able to put your face in the water, and able to perform 15 yards of the front crawl, breast stroke and back crawl. Fitness Swimming is a structured aquatic program, which is designed to challenge all participants no matter their swimming abilities. Based on the principle of Mechanics, Consistency and then Intensity, CrossFit emphasizes good movement throughout childhood and adolescence. Consistently good mechanics translates to physical literacy, enhanced sports performance and fewer sports injuries for kids and teens. Not only that, a vast body of research indicates that exercise is beneficial to cognitive function, which means consistent adherence to the program can have a positive impact on children’s academic achievement. This class is for Cougar Kids Camp participants for the week of June 25-29. Transportation will be provided to campers to transition to the Chinook for class. Parents/Guardians should pick their child up at the Chinook Student Center promptly at 4:50pm.

Jump start is 5 days long, intended to immerse you in the world of CrossFit, teach you the movements, and give you the foundation for success in our regular classes. At the end of the Jump Start you should be ready to jump in to the regular CrossFit Classes by purchasing a CrossFit Pass and join the rest of the WSU CrossFit Community! Jump start is 5 days long, intended to immerse you in the world of CrossFit, teach you the movements, and give you the foundation for success in our regular classes. Interested in becoming a lifeguard? Take this American Red Cross certification course now! This course teaches the duties, responsibilities and skills necessary to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. Successful participants will be certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR/AED, and First Aid. Youth participants, under the age of 18, must complete the youth registration for this course. This registration is for adults who are 18 years or older. Prerequisite: *Minimum age of 15 before the last day of the scheduled class. *Swim 300 yards continuously, demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Participants may use front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. *Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive 7–10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps, within 1 minute, 40 seconds. *Tread water with hands under armpits for 2 minutes. Certification Requirements: Attend the entire course, participate in all skill sessions and scenarios, demonstrate competency in all required skills and scenarios, pass the final written exam with a minimum grade of 80 percent.The practice sessions will require some strenuous physical activity. Fitness Swimming is a structured aquatic program, which is designed to challenge all participants no matter their swimming abilities. Fitness Swimming offers on-deck coaching, with workouts tailored to the group of swimmers participating. Purchasing the CrossFit membership will allow you to attend an unlimited number of Washington State University CrossFit classes.A Chinook or SRC membership is required to purchase a CrossFit Pass. Pass holders may attend classes in facilities where they are members; SRC members may attend classes at Down Under, and Chinook members may attend classes at the Chinook. The CrossFit pass does not include membership or provide access to facilities for non-members.
