Purchasing the CrossFit membership will allow you to attend an unlimited number of Washington State University CrossFit classes. A Chinook or SRC membership is required to purchase a CrossFit Pass. Pass holders may attend classes in facilities where they are members; SRC members may attend classes at Down Under, and Chinook members may attend classes at the Chinook. The CrossFit pass does not include membership or provide access to facilities for non-members. Adult Beginner Swim Lessons

Learning the Basics. These lessons will help you learn how to be comfortable and active in the water. You will learn how to float, submerge completely, propel yourself through the water on the front and back, and begin to learn the basics of the front and back crawl strokes. All of our instructors are certified as Water Safety Instructors and teach 45 minute lessons based off the curriculum of the American Red Cross. Refund Policy: With receipt or proof of purchase, full refunds are given until the registration deadline. 50% refunds are given until and including the first day of class. Improving Skills and Swimming Strokes You will learn and improve proficiency in basic aquatic skills and the six basic swimming strokes. These lessons will teach you how to become a more efficient and effective swimmer. You will also learn how to be safe in and around the water. All of our instructors are certified as Water Safety Instructors and teach 45 minute lessons based off the curriculum of the American Red Cross. Prerequisites: You must be comfortable in chest-deep water, able to put your face in the water, and able to perform 15 yards of the front crawl, breast stroke and back crawl. This program is perfect for those wanting to cross train, improve swimming techniques, master skills, training for triathlons and more! Prerequisite: There are no prerequisites, however, all Fitness Swimming participant’s should be able to swim a length of 25 yards using freestyle, breaststroke, and backstroke and be able to tread in deep water for at least 1 minute. CrossFit is constantly varied, functional movements performed at high intensities. CrossFit is broad, general and inclusive fitness that seeks to prepare participants for any physical or unknown contingency. You will work on the foundational movements of CrossFit while increasing your knowledge of fundamental CrossFit exercises and increasing your work capacity. Intro to CrossFit is an introductory course that meets twice a week. You will be taught the fundamental CrossFit movements, perform a Workout of the Day (WOD) and begin tracking strength numbers. This section of CrossFit will be in the Chinook Student Center Room B40. Level 2 - Fundamental Aquatic Skills. Builds on basic aquatic skills and water safety concepts learned in Level 1. Participants will learn how to fully submerge, open their eyes and retrieve submerged objects in chest-deep water. In addition, participants will learn how to float in a face-down position and improve distance of front and back glides. At this level, participants will begin to develop combined arm and leg actions on the front and back. Prerequisites: Participant should be 6 years or older. Successful demonstration of the Level 1 exit skills assessment. Interested in becoming a lifeguard? Take this American Red Cross certification course now! This course teaches the duties, responsibilities and skills necessary to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. Successful participants will be certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR/AED, and First Aid. Youth participants, under the age of 18, must complete the youth registration for this course. This registration is for adults who are 18 years or older. Prerequisite: *Minimum age of 15 before the last day of the scheduled class. *Swim 300 yards continuously, demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Participants may use front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. *Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive 7–10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps, within 1 minute, 40 seconds. *Tread water with hands under armpits for 2 minutes. Certification Requirements: Attend the entire course, participate in all skill sessions and scenarios, demonstrate competency in all required skills and scenarios, pass the final written exam with a minimum grade of 80 percent.The practice sessions will require some strenuous physical activity. You are encouraged to check with your health-care professional before participating in the practice sessions. Parents/guardians and children participate in several guided practice sessions that help children learn elementary skills, including water entry, bubble blowing, front kicking, back floating, underwater exploration and more. Once children can perform basic skills without parental assistance, they may begin independent Preschool courses (ages 4 and 5).All of our instructors are certified as Water Safety Instructors and teach 30 minute lessons based off the curriculum of the American Red Cross. SRC Members will use their Cougar Card for facility access and the youth will be checked in on a roster for each lesson. Prerequisites: Child must be at least 4 years old. There are no prerequisites for this level. All of our instructors are certified as Water Safety Instructors and teach 30 minute lessons based off the curriculum of the American Red Cross. SRC Members will use their Cougar Card for facility access and the youth will be checked in on a roster for each lesson. Everyone regardless of member status will check in their child at the Student Recreation Membership Desk. Fitness Swimming is a structured aquatic program, which is designed to challenge all participants no matter their swimming abilities. Fitness Swimming offers on-deck coaching, with workouts tailored to the group of swimmers participating. Each workout plan will be adapted to each individual swimmer, to help push, challenge and improve each participant’s personal goals. This program is perfect for those wanting to cross train, improve swimming techniques, master skills, training for triathlons and more! Prerequisite: There are no prerequisites, however, all Fitness Swimming participant’s should be able to swim a length of 25 yards using freestyle, breaststroke, and backstroke and be able to tread in deep water for at least 1 minute. Youth must be supervised directly on the pool deck by their parent/legal guardian during the entire lesson. All youth must have a youth waiver signed by their parent/legal guardian to enter the facility. You must be a SRC Member to register for Youth Group Swim Lessons. SRC Members will use their Cougar Card for facility access and the youth will be checked in on a roster for each lesson. Refund Policy: With receipt or proof of purchase, full refunds are given until the registration deadline. 50% refunds are given until and including the first day of class.
