Fitness Class List

Interested in participating in a fitness class?

A membership or a day/guest pass is required to participate in classes located at the Chinook and SRC. Please note that there is a SRC and FSFP member rate for Chinook classes, which only provides Chinook access to SRC/FSFP members 20 minutes prior to class to 20 minutes after. 

A Fitness punch card does not provide access to the SRC or Chinook for non-members.  Participants may gain access to facilities via membership, day/guest pass, or a facilities punch card.  

Fitness Class Refund Policy

With receipt or proof of purchase, a full refund given within 6 days after the start of class, 50% refund within 13 days after the start of class.  No refund will be given after 13 days of the start of class. Additionally, to keep costs low, all classes are assessed for cancellation at the end of the first week of the session.  Participants in classes with low enrollment will be given the option of a full refund or transfer into another class.

We will be mainly using our indoor facility, the Chinook Student Center. So, expect more traditional CrossFit workouts with pullups, toes to bar, wallballs, etc. We also have an outdoor turfed area and a track nearby, so sled pushes and sprints are also a possibility. This is the Rx Men's division. If signing up in this division, you should be able to complete the following: Double Unders Chin over the bar Pullups Toes to Bar Squat cleans at least 135lbs Snatches at at least 95lbs Deadlifts at at least 225 Championships will likely include heavier barbells, higher skilled gymnastics movements, muscle ups and/or rope climbs. Night of the Living Deadlift

Join University Recreation in its first annual power lifting competition: Night of the Living Deadlift. Show us your max effort on the BIG 3, Bench Press, Back Squat and Deadlift. Winner earns the right to be titled “Strongest on the Palouse” and will be gifted WSU Swag along with a trophy. This is a raw power lifting meet in which a belt, chalk, and knee sleeves are permitted. Also, as this is Halloween themed, feel free to lift in your Halloween costume (optional) in which the best costume gets a separate award. Registration opens on 8/20/2018 and closes 10/7/2018. CrossFit Jump Start

Ready to sign up for CrossFit but are worried that you don't know the movements or aren't in shape yet? CrossFit Jump Start is just for you. Jump start is 5 days long, intended to immerse you in the world of CrossFit, teach you the movements, and give you the foundation for success in our regular classes. To participate in CrossFit, you will need a Chinook membership. At the end of the Jump Start you should be ready to jump in to the regular CrossFit Classes by purchasing a CrossFit Pass and join the rest of the WSU CrossFit Community! Upon graduation on that Friday of class, if you have attended at least 4 days that week, you will receive your CrossFit shirt, and will be ready to roll your Jump Start experience right in to a CrossFit Pass!

American Red Cross Lifeguarding Review Certification Course

This update course is to give currently certified lifeguards the opportunity to update skills to the newest American Red Cross Lifeguarding course content and renew certification. Successful participants will be re-certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR/AED, and First Aid for 2 years. ***You will need to bring a copy of your current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification along with a valid government issued form of identification. These items will be verified by the instructor prior to the course starting. We can not submit a course record for your renewed certification without verifying your current certification. Please use the Youth Registration to enroll participants who are under the age of 18. Prerequisite: *Minimum age of 15 before the last day of the scheduled class. *Swim 300 yards continuously, demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Participants may use front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. *Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive 7–10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps, within 1 minute, 40 seconds. *Tread water with hands under armpits for 2 minutes. Certification Requirements: Attend the entire course, participate in all skill sessions and scenarios, demonstrate competency in all required skills and scenarios, pass the final written exam with a minimum grade of 80 percent. These clinics are designed to help you improve your strokes. Work with one of our UREC Swim Instructors to learn ways to make your swimming more efficient or to learn a new drill to add to your workouts. There are no prerequisites for this course. Inappropriate swim wear includes but is not limited to: cut off jean shorts, worn or see through swim wear, thongs, underwear, athletic shorts, gym workout attire, and t-shirts. Prerequisite: *Minimum age of 15 before the last day of the scheduled class. *Swim 300 yards continuously, demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Fitness Swimming Clinic

Fitness Swimming is a structured aquatic program, which is designed to challenge all participants no matter their swimming abilities. Fitness Swimming offers on-deck coaching, with workouts tailored to the group of swimmers participating. Each workout plan will be adapted to each individual swimmer, to help push, challenge and improve each participant’s personal goals. This program is perfect for those wanting to cross train, improve swimming techniques, master skills, training for triathlons and more! Prerequisite: There are no prerequisites, however, all Fitness Swimming participant’s should be able to swim a length of 25 yards using freestyle, breaststroke, and backstroke and be able to tread in deep water for at least 1 minute. **Accessibility: Reasonable accommodations are available with adequate prior notification. Fitness Swimming is a structured aquatic program, which is designed to challenge all participants no matter their swimming abilities. Fitness Swimming offers on-deck coaching, with workouts tailored to the group of swimmers participating. Each workout plan will be adapted to each individual swimmer, to help push, challenge and improve each participant’s personal goals. This program is perfect for those wanting to cross train, improve swimming techniques, master skills, training for triathlons and more! Interested in becoming a lifeguard? Take this American Red Cross certification course now! This course teaches the duties, responsibilities and skills necessary to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. Successful participants will be certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR/AED, and First Aid. Youth participants, under the age of 18, must complete the youth registration for this course. This registration is for adults who are 18 years or older. Prerequisite: *Minimum age of 15 before the last day of the scheduled class. *Swim 300 yards continuously, demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Participants may use front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. *Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive 7–10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps, within 1 minute, 40 seconds. *Tread water with hands under armpits for 2 minutes. Certification Requirements: Attend the entire course, participate in all skill sessions and scenarios, demonstrate competency in all required skills and scenarios, pass the final written exam with a minimum grade of 80 percent.The practice sessions will require some strenuous physical activity. You are encouraged to check with your health-care professional before participating in the practice sessions.
