University Recreation Massage Practitioners offer the following types of massage:

Swedish Massage

Lay back, relax, and let us release all the stress stored in your tightened muscles. Our massage techniques help to relieve tension, promote body awareness by helping both your body and mind unwind.  Swedish massage employs soft, long, kneading strokes that relieve muscular tension, which creates a state of relaxation.  This style of massage instills a profound feeling of wellbeing.  Using these lighter, rhythmic strokes, Swedish massages are enjoyed by people of all ages and lifestyles.

Therapeutic/Treatment Massage

When muscles are stressed for long periods of time, they block oxygen and nutrients, leading to inflammation that builds up in the cellular tissue.  Deep tissue massage releases chronic tension through slow, deliberate strokes, area specific with utilization of deep pressure.  This invigorating experience is a process of detection of stiff or painful areas by determining the quality and texture of the deeper layers of musculature, and slowly working into the deep layers of muscle tissue. True deep tissue massage can be one of the most therapeutic and healing massages. Although not as rhythmic as other massage types, deep tissue massage is extremely therapeutic.

Pregnancy Massage

Massage during pregnancy is therapeutic bodywork, which focuses on the special needs of the mother-to-be as her body goes through the dramatic changes of the childbirth experience.  Pregnancy massage has been found to reduce stress, decrease swelling in the arms and legs, and relieve aches and pains in muscles and joints. It's a popular complementary therapy during pregnancy for back pain, when choices for pain relief, such as medication, are often limited.  Not only emotional support during pregnancy. Custom designed massage pillows are provided to maximize over-all comfort for you and your baby.

On-Site Massage

On-Site Massage is one name for a short (15-20 minute) massage of a client sitting in a special, portable massage chair.  The client remains fully clothed and no oils are used while areas such as thier shoulders, neck, upper baack, head and arms are massaged.  On-Side is popular at offices as an employee benefit and for some conferences, workshops and certain social events.
