2017 Pac-12 Fitness Challenge: Lead the Cougars to Victory!

It’s that time of year when the Cougs get to take on the rest of the Pac-12 to show off who’s got the most dedication to living a healthy, active life.  We’ve got the facilities, the drive to succeed, and an unwavering will to do whatever it takes to see the Cougs at the top of the Pac-12. Check out our week of fun activities to help you lace up, stretch out, and get in the game! Go Cougs!

October 23-27

Help WSU secure the title of the conference’s most active school by participating in the Pac-12Fitness Challenge. The Pac-12 Fitness Challenge is a conference-wide initiative promoting regular physical activity. UREC will pair with WSU’s Exercise as Medicine Group to provide prizes to those who enter in many of the activities hosted by the groups throughout the week. All schools in the conference will be competing to accumulate the most minutes of physical activity and earn the title of PAC-12 Fitness Challenge Champion!

Monday- Friday  Free SRC and Chinook Access All Day Free SRC and Chinook Access

Faculty, staff, and graduate students will have free access to the SRC and Chinook Center Monday – Friday of the Pac-12 Fitness Challenge. To gain entry, please present your Cougar Card.

 
Weight Room Challenge  All Day

Weight Room Challenge

Each day UREC Weight Room Attendants will score willing patrons on a different fitness challenge. These challenges can help you gain more minutes of activity to help lead the Cougs to victory! At the end of the week, the overall winner of the Weight Room Challenge will receive a prize.  

 
Mile High Ascent                                      All Day

Mile High Ascent

Do you think you can climb 5,280 feet in five days? That’s 189 roped ascents. Be one of the first three competitors to complete the mile high ascent and achieve glory, plus a prize!  Ascend to new heights as you ascend our wall.

Washington State University is an official Exercise is Medicine Campus, and we strive to connect Health and Wellness and University Recreation, while promoting physical activity throughout campus. All EIM activities will take place at the Glenn Terrell Mall.

Join EIM for a walk throughout campus with students and faculty. We will have two separate walks, each lasting 30 minutes. The walk will end at the CUB, where there will be a variety of exercise-related clubs that you can check out.

Calling all Cougs! Do you love to dance? Do you need to add some fun to your fitness? Ready for a Thriller of a time? This high-energy, hip-hop dance class will be sure to get your heart pumping and your body sweating. In addition, you will learn the dance steps to Thriller. No experience is necessary and all fitness levels are welcome to participate in this free class.

EIM will be hosting a freeyoga class in the Chinook. Stop by the mall from 9:00-3:00 pm to learn flexibility exercises that you can do in the classroom or office.

 
Spooky Spin Tuesday 7:45-8:30 p.m.

Get in the Halloween spirit by participating in this Spooky Spin. This 45 minute spin class will feature themed music, black lights, and effect lighting to enhance your ride. Wear your flashiest neon tops and accessories and get ready for spook-tacular time! Please note spots are limited; doors will open at 7:35 pm. We will also be hosting this event again on Thursday 10/26.

Come test your strength with EIM and complete as many push-ups or sit-ups as you can! We will have a contest throughout the day to see if we get more push-ups or sit-ups.

 
Thursday Oct 26th Endurance and Blender Bike 9:00-3:00 p.m

Join EIM and test your endurance with jump ropes, a jog throughout campus, or a walk test. Pre – Nutrition and Exercise Physiology club will also have a blender bike courtesy of the Moscow Co-op. The club will be offering samples in exchange for your physical activity!

SRC Functional Area

Summon your weights from the crypts of the Rec Center. Join us for our freaky deadlift competition held in the SRC functional area Thursday night. Competitors will be judged on a max effort deadlift in accordance with their body weight, and on awesomeness of costume. You can’t be just the strongest to win this one, but also the freakiest.

Come and pick out your holiday pumpkin! We will be having our own version of a pumpkin patch in the SRC pool. After you have picked your pumpkin out of the pool, you can carve/decorate the pumpkin on the pool deck area. The kind folks from the Student Entertainment Board will assist you in your pumpkin carving/decorating.

Come learn proper squat and lifting techniques with a fitness professional. EIM will also have a squat challenge with a collective goal of 2,000 squats for the day.
