Camp Staff 2009

Are you interested in becoming a Cougar Kids Camp counselor for summer 2009?  Counselor applications will be available online starting January 12 on the Student Employment Website.  Applications will be accepted until all positions are filled.

In addition to our camp staff monitoring each activity to ensure both the enjoyment and safety of each camper, we provide the following safety measures in order to secure each camper’s well-being:

Camp Staff: Each camp staff member is American Red Cross certified in adult, child, and infant CPR and AED use, as well as EpiPen certified. Each staff member is also trained in team building, game, activity and sport safety precautions, as well as conflict resolution and UREC risk management standards. During any travel situation where a university vehicle is in use, a van certified driver will be used.

Pool: All pool activity will be supervised by a minimum of 2 American Red Cross certified lifeguards. Additionally, staff members will be in the pool with the campers. We have a supply of child size life jackets and additional floatation devices.

At the start of each week, new campers will be given a swim test to gain access to the deep end of the pool. Campers who do not pass the swim test or choose not to take the test will remain in the shallow end of the pool.

Climbing Wall: Climbing wall activities will be facilitated by two staff members from the Outdoor Recreation Center. These staff members have been trained to administer wall climbs with all different age groups and abilities. In addition to the ORC staff members, a camp staff member will be there to assist in climbing and supervision. All camp staff members have been trained to facilitate wall climbs. For campers we have child size harnesses and helmets.

Challenge Course: During challenge course activities, Cougar Kids Camp complies with all UREC risk management and ACCT standards. Challenge activities will be led by one or two challenge course facilitators. Camp staff will also be present to assist the facilitator with supervision.
