Proper Steps:

Face the cable with the swing arm set above you
Brace your core and pack your shoulder blades down and together
Grip the rope attachment with both palms facing each other with your elbows locked tight to your body
Press your pinky fingers down and away from each other as if you are trying to straighten out the rope
Control the weights return to the starting position
Repeat as necessary
