Proper Steps:

-Begin lying perpendicular to a bench
-Place one heel on the bench, and hold the other in the air
-Before beginning the repetition, disengage your low back by bracing your core; press your bellybutton into the ground.
-Drive the heel of your planted leg into the bench, and squeeze your glute to raise your hips into the air
-Lower your body back into the starting position with control
-Repeat on both sides for desired amount of repetitions
