Proper Steps:

Begin standing shoulder width apart with a DB at shoulder height
Brace your core by drawing your belly button towards your spine with your rib-cage tucked
Pack your shoulder blades by pulling them down and together
Dip your hips back, then snap forward to launch the DB up off your shoulder
Complete the upward phase by pressing the DB in a corkscrew motion to lockout with your bicep beside your ear
Control the DB's descent back into the starting position
Rinse. Repeat.
