Proper Steps:

Standing beneath a pull up bar, jump into a pull up 
Use the momentum from your jump to assist your pull up 
When performing the pull up, grip the bar slightly outside shoulder-width and pull your chest to the bar 
Lower yourself with control into a ‘dead-hang’ before dropping back down onto the floor 
Aim to pull up and lower yourself in a straight line beneath the bar, rather than an arc
