Proper Steps:

Start in a low, athletic stance with your feet wider than hip-width apart 
Push off your rear leg, and reach with your lead leg to pull yourself in the direction you are traveling 
Keep your hips low, weight centered between your feet, and aim to minimize any vertical bounce in your hips and torso
