Proper Steps:

Begin with your hands elevated on a stable surface, using a wide grip with your fingertips pointed out to the sides
Brace your core, grip the floor with your hands, and lower your body to one side, keeping the other arm straight and sturdy
At the bottom of the push up, your chest should make contact with the wrist of your bent arm
Push yourself back up into the starting position before repeating on the other side
