Proper Steps:

Begin in a slightly wider than shoulder-width stance with a MB held at the sternum in both hands, with your thumbs pointing upwards
Brace your core to protect and stabilize the spine
Hinge at the hips and load the back of your legs so that your upper body is parallel to the ground
Explosively chest pass the MB against the ground repeatedly for the desired amount of repetitions
