COVID Information

Overview of policy changes

  • Face Coverings are required within our facilities
  • Face coverings are required for outdoor activities when 6' of distance cannot be maintained
  • Temperature check will be performed prior to entering the facility
  • A reservations is required for the use of all indoor facilities.
  • Participant COVID-19 Attestation - please complete daily and show the final screen to a UREC employee before entering an indoor facility.  

Health and Safety Guidelines for Participants

  • Wearing a mask/cloth face covering is required upon entering all indoor facilities and in all outdoor facilities when distancing over six feet cannot be ensured. More information about masks/cloth face coverings.
    • Face coverings will not be required while in the pool or during active participation in fitness classes under the direction of the instructor when distancing can be ensured. 
    • Face coverings will not be required in the Pool Cardio area and individual work out when participating in strenuous activity.  Face coverings are required when moving throughout the facility.
  • All participants will receive a temperature check upon entering the SRC but before the turnstiles. A touchless device will be used to scan your forehead or wrist from about four to five inches away. Individuals registering a 100.4 or above temperature will be asked to exit the building, return home, and call their medical professional. If you plan to run, walk, or bike to the facility, it is recommended that you cool off in the shade for a few moments before entering to have your temperature checked.
  • In compliance with Washington State Fitness and Training COVID-19 requirements, all participants and staff must attest that they have not experienced symptoms of or tested positive for COVID-19, in the past 14 days. Each time you enter a recreation facility, you will need to submit the WSU attestation form. A QR code link will be available for patrons to use from their phones at each facility. Patrons will need to show the completed form to a staff member before entering the facility.
  • Clean your equipment before and after use. We have provided Virex spray and new Oxivir wipes for participants, in addition to increased cleaning protocols for our staff.
  • Know the signs of COVID and stay home if you are sick. If you feel unwell or have any of the symptoms listed by the CDC, please leave any UREC facility and call a healthcare provider.
  • Reservations are required for all spaces in the SRC and the Chinook. Visit our website to reserve your timeslot
  • Towel service will not be available.
  • Physical Distancing (approximately 200 sq. ft which is about 14 feet by 14 feet) is required during a workout; while normally our spaces are social by nature, we are encouraging individuals to limit the time they stay in our facilities before and after their workout.  Six (6) foot physical distance should be maintained at all other times in our facility.
  • Hydrate before, during, and after your workouts. Remember to bring your own water bottle. While our bottle filling stations are available, our water fountains have been shut off.

Facility Information

Student Recreation Center

  • The Student Recreation Center will operate at <25% capacity.  Individual areas' capacity will be calculated for 200 sq. ft. per person. As listed above, reservations are required for indoor activities.
  • Additional changes are listed here:
    • Day passes, guest passes, and fitness punch passes are not currently available.
    • Youth may only enter with their own parent/legal guardian who must be a current member. Parents or Legal Guardians must add an additional reservation for the area to be used for their child(ren).  Unfortunately, you may not be a sponsoring adult for a youth that is not from your household.
    • Areas/Activities Not Available
      • Basketball/Indoor Soccer/Roller Hockey – No Pick-Up or Competitive games allowed. Six (6) foot physical social distancing is required during shooting or skill activities. 
      • Lounge and Leisure Games – Shuffleboard, Foosball, Chess/Checkers will not be available.
      • Locker Rooms – CLOSED
        • Individuals with pool reservations will have access to the locker room from the pool deck to take a cleansing shower as required by the WAC prior to their reservation.
        • Individuals with contents in their locker should email David Grassi (david.grassi@wsu.edu) or Nick Prante (nprante@wsu.edu) to schedule a time pick up their locker contents.
      • Cardio Equipment – Equipment signs will indicate which equipment is not available. Individuals will not be able to use cardio equipment that is side-by-side.
      • Weight Room – The SRC weight room has been modified to encourage physical distancing, which may include waiting to be able to use pieces of equipment.  Please maintain 200 sq. ft. of the distance between other individuals.
      • Racquetball/Individual Workout Area – Racquetball Courts will only be available for single use workouts.

Chinook Student Center

    • The Chinook Student Center will operate at <25% capacity.  Individual fitness areas' capacity will be calculated for 200 sq. ft. per person. As listed above, reservations are required for indoor activities.

Additional Information

  • Our full-time and student custodial staff will be deep cleaning the SRC throughout the day, per CDC recommendations.
  • Our attendant staff will be disinfecting high touch areas frequently, including countertops, door handles, hand railings, and weight and cardio equipment throughout the day.
  • Our HVAC systems meet or surpass the MERV 13 recommended air filters in both the SRC and the Chinook. We have also changed our air handlers to utilize only fresh air within our facilities.
  • We installed Plexiglas barriers at the point of sale locations.
  • Provided additional American Red Cross training for our staff to be able to respond to emergencies with COVID-19 potential. 

Facility Space or Area Change

  • Racquetball/Squash Courts are not available for any activity.
  • Basketball, Sport Court (Indoor Soccer, Hockey), Volleyball, Badminton, and Pickleball is available for shooting or skills.  Pick up or competitive games are not permitted.  Limit of 5 people per court.  Physical Distancing is required.
  • Shuffleboard, Foosball, Chess/Checkers are not available.

Elected Membership Information

Your Membership and Locker will be credited for 4 months.  Example: If your membership expires on August 1, 2020, it will be extended through December 1, 2020.

Facility access for the summer will be at the SRC for any membership (SRC, Chinook, FSFP) through at least August 15, 2020. 

  • This will restart your membership on Friday, July 17, 2020, with access to the SRC.  If this does not meet your SRC, Chinook, or FSFP membership needs, please request a refund that will be calculated from March 16, 2020.  Once the Chinook or FSFP resume operations, you may purchase a new membership. The deadline to request a refund that will be backdated to March 16, 2020, is Friday, July 31, 2020.  After that date, a prorated refund will be processed based on your extended expiration date.

At this point FSFP facility offerings will remain closed through the fall. Members of that programs will receive access to the Chinook and SRC.
