Interested in participating in a fitness class?

A membership or a day/guest pass is required to participate in classes located at the Chinook and SRC. Please note that there is a SRC and FSFP member rate for Chinook classes, which only provides Chinook access to SRC/FSFP members 20 minutes prior to class to 20 minutes after. 

A Fitness punch card does not provide access to the SRC or Chinook for non-members.  Participants may gain access to facilities via membership, day/guest pass, or a facilities punch card.

Fitness Class Refund Policy

With receipt or proof of purchase, a full refund given within 6 days after the start of class, 50% refund within 13 days after the start of class.  No refund will be given after 13 days of the start of class. Additionally, to keep costs low, all classes are assessed for cancellation at the end of the first week of the session.  Participants in classes with low enrollment will be given the option of a full refund or transfer into another class.

How to Write a Swim Workout Clinic

Ever been interested in how to write your own swimming workouts/sets? This is the clinic for you. One of our American Red Cross certified Water Safety Instructors will guide you through some basic processes of how to develop and refine your swimming workouts/sets. During this 45 minute session, you will be able to ask questions, receive guidance, and get to write at least one set yourself that the instructor will critique and let you know what changes they would make if they were coaching you during that workout/set. University Recreation is now recognized as an official club by US Master's Swimming! You do not have to be a member of US Master's Swimming to participate in our practices. All of our Fitness Swimming classes are practice times but you must have purchased the Fitness Swimming class in order to be able to practice. American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification Course

Interested in becoming a lifeguard? Take this American Red Cross certification course now! This course teaches the duties, responsibilities and skills necessary to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. Successful participants will be certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR/AED, and First Aid. Youth participants, under the age of 18, must complete the youth registration for this course. This registration is for adults who are 18 years or older. Prerequisite: *Minimum age of 15 before the last day of the scheduled class. *Swim 300 yards continuously, demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Participants may use front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. *Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive 7–10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps, within 1 minute, 40 seconds. *Tread water with hands under armpits for 2 minutes. Certification Requirements: Attend the entire course, participate in all skill sessions and scenarios, demonstrate competency in all required skills and scenarios, pass the final written exam with a minimum grade of 80 percent. SWIM THE PAC-12!

Swim the Pac-12 is a challenge to motivate swimmers of all levels to move to the pools for fitness. Participants can water walk, aqua-jog, or swim their way through the challenge - the main point is to get in the water and enjoy the benefits of swimming! You have twelve weeks (January 21-April 14) to complete any of the routes through the Pac-12. Distances have been calculated based on general distances from campus to campus. Participants are responsible for logging their progress in the binders located at each pool. There are three routes to choose from: Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced. When participants register online by March 1 and track their distances on the sheets provided in each pool, they will receive a prize for each distance they complete. Participants will get a water bottle for the Beginner Stage, a mesh swim bag for the Intermediate Stage, and a cool UREC beach towel for completing the Advanced Stage. Advanced stage winners will also be entered into a drawing for a free semester session of Fitness Swimming!

This update course is to give currently certified lifeguards the opportunity to update skills to the newest American Red Cross Lifeguarding course content and renew certification. Successful participants will be re-certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR/AED, and First Aid for 2 years. Currently certified Individuals and individuals with certifications that have been expired by no more than 30 days are eligible to register for this course. If your certification has been expired for 31 days or more you will have to take the full American Red Cross Lifeguard course again. ***You will need to bring a copy of your current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification along with a valid government-issued form of identification. These items will be verified by the instructor prior to the course start. We can not submit a course record for your renewed certification without verifying your current certification.*** Please use the Youth Registration to enroll participants who are under the age of 18. Payment for this course also provides you with a CPR mask which you will be able to keep after this course. Safety Training for Swim Coaches (In-Water Skills Session)

Are you currently a swim coach or interested in becoming one? Take the American Red Cross Certification course now through WSU! This course teaches those involved in competitive swimming how to help maintain a comfortable and safe environment for swimmers, prevent accidents and emergencies and respond to swimmers with illnesses or injuries in water or on land. ***You will need to bring a copy of your current American Red Cross Safety Training for Swim Coaches Online Content Only certificate along with a valid government-issued form of identification. These items will be verified by the instructor prior to the course start. We can not submit a course record for your renewed certification without verifying your current certification.*** Youth participants, under the age of 18, must complete the youth registration for this course. This registration is for adults who are 18 years or older. Prerequisite: *Minimum age of 15 before the last day of the scheduled class. *There are no skill prerequisites to enroll in the Safety Training for Swim Coaches Blended Learning course. However, because there is an in-water skills session, participants must be comfortable in chest-deep water. The Blended Learning version of the course is designed to be taught in approximately 6 hours. Online time: 3 hours and 3 hours of facility time. Are you currently a swim coach or interested in becoming one? Take the American Red Cross Certification course now through WSU! This course teaches those involved in competitive swimming how to help maintain a comfortable and safe environment for swimmers, prevent accidents and emergencies and respond to swimmers with illnesses or injuries in water or on land. ***You will need to bring a copy of your current American Red Cross Safety Training for Swim Coaches Online Content Only certificate along with a valid government-issued form of identification. These items will be verified by the instructor prior to the course start. We can not submit a course record for your renewed certification without verifying your current certification.*** Youth participants, under the age of 18, must complete the youth registration for this course. Successful participants will be re-certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR/AED, and First Aid for 2 years. Currently certified Individuals and individuals with certifications that have been expired by no more than 30 days are eligible to register for this course. If your certification has been expired for 31 days or more you will have to take the full American Red Cross Lifeguard course again. ***You will need to bring a copy of your current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification along with a valid government-issued form of identification.
