We will learn the basics of group fitness instruction with UREC's Fitness Instructor Training (FIT) program. At this time, we are only accepting WSU students who will graduate Spring 2022 or later. In order to qualify for the FIT Express course, you must have a current national certification and prior instruction experience or extensive formal training. A national certification includes a general (Group Fitness from ACE, AFAA, NASM, etc.) and/or format-specific certifications (Les Mills, Zumba, XPole, CrossFit, etc.). Formal training includes dance, martial arts, theatre, and other instructional formats. We will also accept successful completion of substantial Exercise Science-related courses with grades of B or higher as formal training. This course will comprise of a virtual component that covers theoretical content and an in-person meeting that provides hands-on practice. The in-person meeting will take place on Saturday, May 29, 2021, 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. at the SRC. The virtual component must be completed on students' own time by May 29. This training is required to work for UREC and prepares instructors for taking the ACE Group Fitness Instructor certification exam. After successfully completing the training and the subsequent shadowing process, participants can audition to lead group fitness classes for UREC. Please note that completion of this course does not guarantee employment.
