11/05/2011 Avalanche Level 1 - (SRC Members & Non SRC Members)
This is a unique opportunity for students to take an Avalanche Level 1 course sponsored by the National Ski Patrol. During this class, participants will learn how to safely travel in the backcountry. Topics include: types of avalanches, characteristics of avalanches, how avalanches form and release, assessing avalanche terrain, trip planning and preparation, backcountry travel techniques, decision making and avalanche rescue. Participants will receive a course completion card, upon mastering all course material. This course takes place of two weekends. The lecture portion of this course is in November from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm at the Student Recreation Center’s Conference Room. The field section of this course will take place on January 7 & 8 at Silver Mountain Ski Resort in Kellogg, ID. The cost of this course does not include lift tickets, lodging, equipment, or transportation. Refunds will not be provided past the registration deadline. If the trip or clinic does not have enough participants or faces inclement weather conditions, the program may be cancelled or subject to change at the discretion of the ORC Coordinator. Cancellations made up until two weeks prior to registration deadline will receive a full refund. Cancellations made prior to registration deadline receive 50% refund. No refunds are given past the registration deadline.

Prerequisite
Class participants must be able to ski/board competently enough to move about the mountain on groomed and ungroomed runs.
