5/4/2012 Outdoor Leadership Training

Weather you are interested in leading trips for the outdoor Recreation Center or your friends, this course teaches participants how to lead others in the wilderness and learn how to kayak, backpack, and rock climb. This course will also include Leave No Trace Awareness Certification and group facilitation skills. During this multi-day, professionally instructed, and administered course; participants will learn the skills necessary to lead an array of outdoor activities. Students will hone their backpacking skills while embarking on a wilderness trip. Students will also learn about sea kayaking while practicing rescue techniques and proper paddling on the water. Finally, students will learn the basics of rock climbing and engage in two days of learning and developing their facilitation skills.
Trip rating is level 2. There is a mandatory pre-trip meeting on April 24 in the Outdoor Recreation Center Lobby. Trip cost includes: kayak rental, group gear, rock climbing equipment, transportation, and instruction (food NOT included).

Prerequisite

The pre-trip meeting will be held in the ORC lobby on April 24 at 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm.
