COUGAR KIDS CAMP GROUP LEADER
DESCRIPTION
Temporary, part time position.
Cougar Kids Camp Counselors design and lead engaging, age-appropriate recreational activities for youth participating in UREC camps. Programs may include fitness games, sports, arts and crafts, team-building challenges, swimming, and themed special events. Counselors are responsible for participant supervision, activity setup and breakdown, behavior management, safety oversight, and fostering a fun, inclusive, and welcoming environment. Counselors serve as positive role models and ensure the wellbeing, engagement, and enjoyment of all campers.
DUTIES
- Prepare and supervise camp activities and facilities
- Supervise movement of campers between stations
- Handle on site inquiries, concerns, conflict situations and discipline
- Conduct and document daily inspection of activity areas and equipment
- Administer first aid/handle emergency situations and contact emergency services as necessary
- Assist with camper check in/check out procedures
- Actively supervise assigned areas/facilities/programs
- Instruct campers in various sport, game, craft and outdoor activities
- Supervise pool/locker room activities
- Provide excellent customer service
- Enforce program, department, University, and state policies
- Respond to injuries or illness in accordance with American Red Cross guidelines and UREC/WSU policies
- Facilitate emergency evacuation of activity areas as necessary
- Complete Incident reports and other required documentation
- Inspect assigned areas and report and/or resolve hazards according to training
- Obtain and maintain all required certifications

- American Red Cross First Aid, Infant/Adult/Child CPR and Adult/Child AED, Epi Pen and Asthma Training, Blood Borne Pathogens: Preventing Disease Transmission
- Attend and participate in all required WSU and UREC trainings and in-services by communicated deadlines, including
- UREC position specific trainings and in-services
- UREC New Employee Orientation
- UREC Emergency Response Training, Risk Management Training, and All Staff Training
- Successful completion of emergency response and activity-specific skills audits
- Assist with UREC special events, programs, and other projects as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Full-time (6+ credits) WSU student
- Ability to work 20-40 hours per week
- Available June-July
- Ability to work evenings and weekends
- Pass background screening

- Experience working with youth

- Knowledge of camp games and activities

- Experience with pool activities preferred
- Ability to know, enforce, and role model all UREC, and WSU policies and procedures, even in potentially stressful situations
- Strong customer service skills
- Ability to interact with people in a positive manner and resolve conflicts involving patrons and leaders
- Ability to recognize risks and implement departmental risk management procedures
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with multiple constituents
- Ability to identify and initiate work projects and function independently
- Ability to think analytically and evaluate possible solutions
- Ability to prioritize and arrange job assignments
