WEIGHT ROOM ATTENDANT

DESCRIPTION

Temporary, part time position. 

Weight Room Attendants support daily operations of UREC fitness facilities by promoting a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all participants. Responsibilities include monitoring activity areas, enforcing facility policies, assisting patrons with equipment use, maintaining cleanliness and organization of equipment, and responding to incidents or emergencies as needed. With guidance from professional staff, attendants help ensure risk management standards are upheld while delivering high-quality customer service and fostering an inclusive fitness experience. 

DUTIES

  • Handle cleanliness of all areas designated to the Weight Room Attendant Position  
  • Clean and service equipment and machines  
  • Handle on site inquiries, concerns, conflict situations and discipline  
  • Administer first aid/handle emergencies as necessary 
  • Complete appropriate forms as necessary  
  • Enforce program, department, University, and state policies  
  • Supervise patrons and their activities, ensuring the safety  
  • Assist in any emergency evacuation  
  • Other duties as assigned  
  • Actively supervise assigned areas/facilities/programs 
  • Provide excellent customer service 
  • Enforce program, department, University, and state policies 
  • Respond to injuries or illness in accordance with American Red Cross guidelines and UREC/WSU policies 
  • Facilitate emergency evacuation of activity areas as necessary 
  • Complete Incident reports and other required documentation 
  • Inspect assigned areas and report and/or resolve hazards according to training 
  • Obtain and maintain all required certifications 
    • WSU FERPA training 
    • Employee Rights and Responsibilities Under UPPM 10.60 
    • American Red Cross First Aid, Infant/Adult/Child CPR and Adult/Child AED, Epi Pen and Asthma Training, Blood Borne Pathogens: Preventing Disease Transmission  
  • Attend and participate in all required WSU and UREC training and in-services by communicated deadlines, including 
    • UREC position specific training and in-services 
    • UREC New Employee Orientation 
    • UREC Emergency Response Training, Risk Management Training, and All Staff Training 
  • Successful completion of emergency response and activity-specific skills audits 
  • Assist with UREC special events, programs, and other projects as assigned. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Full-time (6+ credits) WSU student    
  • Ability to work 10 hours per week 
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends 
  • Pass background screening

  • Working knowledge of the facility and its equipment, this knowledge can be attained by attending the mandatory training session 
  • Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. 
  • Familiarity with exercise principles, resistance training and exercise training equipment 
  • Ability to know, enforce, and role model all UREC, and WSU policies and procedures, even in potentially stressful situations 
  • Strong customer service skills 
  • Ability to interact with people in a positive manner and resolve conflicts involving patrons and leaders 
  • Ability to recognize risks and implement departmental risk management procedures 
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with multiple constituents 
  • Ability to identify and initiate work projects and function independently 
  • Ability to think analytically and evaluate possible solutions 
  • Ability to prioritize and arrange job assignments

HOURS PER WEEK

Variable, 6-12 hours per week. Must be available during weekends. Availability during academic breaks desired. You will be expected to work a minimum of 6 hours per week 

STARTING PAY

$17.13/hour
