We offer many trips, classes, and clinics each semester to provide you with the opportunity to learn new skills or enhance your knowledge of the great outdoors. Come take an adventure with us, bring your friends, and make some new ones. 

There are so many ways to take your fun, your exercise routine and your sense of adventure outside. Here are some of our typical programs. Take a look in the calendar to plan your next adventure.

  • Paddle Sports

    • Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP): sunset paddles, SUP yoga, overnight SUP & camp tours (coming soon)
    • Kayak Touring: sunset paddles, day trips, Intro to Kayak Camping, multiday flat water kayak tours (weekend to week-long from Priest Lake in North Idaho to destinations such as Ross Lake in the N Cascades, Lake Powell in UT/AZ), multiday coastal sea kayaking in the San Juan Islands
  • Snow Sports

    • Snowshoeing: day trips and overnights
    • Cross-Country ski trips: typically day trips, some lunchtime clinics when there's enough snow, and occasionally weekend trips

The WSU University Recreation Climbing Wall Instructor Course provides prospective instructors with an in depth uniform understanding of the abilities critical to facilitating and teaching climbing at the University Climbing Wall. The course underscores the presentation of comprehensive necessary skills to climbing participants, the development of risk assessment and risk management expertise, basic problem solving abilities such as belay transitions, and on wall coaching techniques. The course reinforces the importance of teaching technically accurate information and debunks many common climbing myths. Participants will be assessed on both their core knowledge and their ability to effectively teach and coach related skills. This course serves as the last step in hiring process of climbing wall supervisors.

Travel with the ORC for an unforgettable Thanksgiving break experience in one of our nation’s most beautiful and popular National Parks! Come with us to visit and experience one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. At one mile deep, 277 miles long, and up to 18 miles wide, this area is sure to provide inspiring views, and never-to-be-forgotten moments. You’ll backpack for 3 nights down in the canyon, and spend 2 nights camping on the canyon rim, all while learning about the amazing natural and human history of the area.

Trip rating is level 3. Good physical conditioning is required, some experience is recommended, and some technical knowledge is highly recommended. Participants can expect to hike anywhere between 3-12 miles per day with an overnight backpack on, ascending/descending as much as 5000 vertical feet each day. Trip cost includes group gear and backpacking equipment, transportation, permits, and trip leaders (Food NOT included).
